INTO THE SUMMER – JASSER HAJ YOUSSEF

Violine & Viola d’amore – Solo Improvisation

The violinist Jasser Haj Youssef offers a contemplative conclusion to the evening in the Kunsthalle Osnabrück. The violinist and composer was born in Monastir, Tunisia. It was his father who introduced him to Arabic music, but he also studied classical music at the Conservatory in Monastir. When aged only 16 he had his own radio show on Radio Monastir, and since 2003 he is linving in Paris. Jasser Haj Youssef plays the violin and the viola d’amore, a historic string instrument which was prevalently used in Baroque music and is a close relative of the viola da gamba family of instruments. As a performer Jasser Haj Youssef is as much at home in classical music as in jazz and traditional Arabic music.

Just a few days after the summer solstice, Haj Youssef will play the audience “into the summer” with solo improvisations on the violin and viola d’amore.

Free admission.
